Let The Franchise Go
If there's anything that can be derived from the 'Saw' franchise, it's that as much as a hardcore fanbase that there might be (hell, I adore the first three) that there *actually* is a point where you should just stop. Tell your story...and stop. Don't make it "Friday The 13th Part IX: Thanks For The Money, Suckers". The Final Destination series is no different. The first Final Destination movie dropped ELEVEN years ago. In today's standards, that's eons. The latest installment shows its age, too. It's tedious, predictable, and long.
As if there's even a point in going over the plot, I still will. A man has a premonition that something terrible will happen (suspension bridge collapse in this round). He manages to tell some others, including his coworkers in time. They live. Death says 'umm...wait a second.' They start dropping like flies as Death seeks to right the balance. The end. Yep, no spoiler necessary, we've seen it before...
Like the 'Saw' franchise with its traps, this series is now solely based on its kill scenes. We don't care who lives or dies, we want to see *how* they die. Your standard male star is named 'Sam' here, and him, his friends Peter and Molly et al are just the typical plot devices as per the first four films. The kill scenes granted, ARE quite gruesome this time around, with hooks in the head, a particularly nasty spine snapping, etc. Also, the ONE saving grace here is the ending, where it actually manages to loop back to the first installment in a pretty clever way that seemingly ends the series(?) OK in all honesty probably not, but hey...a guy can dream. In the end I say it's worth seeing if you're a fan of the series. At least on my end I can panic every time I drive over that bridge on the way to visit my friend in North Vancouver (it was shot here)!! Oh Lions Gate Bridge...how quickly I speed over you now haha.
