Enjoyable Supernatural Drama

I'm a huge fan of Clint Eastwood directed movies, and Hereafter continued my love of them for sure. I love how he always takes on completely different topics and genres, and always manages to give them a warm, genuine feel. Hereafter again is no different. This movie really shined for me (don't listen to the critics!) and I found the story smart and above all the acting incredible. The way the movie weaves the paths of the three main characters is pretty incredible.

Matt Damon is a psychic who has decided that he'll do anything to STOP being a psychic. An actual genuine psychic (he has the unexplainable gift to actually speak with the dead), he wants nothing to do with the clairvoyant world after innumerable terrible family secrets he has learned and the emotions that he can't escape. Cecile De France shines as a French reporter who has a near-death experience with a tsunami (being legally dead for a brief time she sees dead relatives in a room of light). Lastly, we meet Marcus, a young boy who has lost his twin brother after his brother was killed while getting detox meds for their heroin addicted mother.

I loved how this movie took the supernatural elements and one in a million coincidences, and placed them in a very real, very believable world. The clairvoyant aspect is medically explained (Damon's character 'George' got sick as a child, had brain surgery which damaged his brain but also left him with the gift) which again gives it a sense of realism...this could happen in real life to anybody. Matt Damon's character is exploited and forced by his greedy older brother to use his gift, De France's character wants anything to explore the hereafter more, and the boy just wants to see his brother one last time. Very real emotions and very real heartaches.

I found this movie to be extremely touching and really recommend it to anyone who loves a well written story that's genuine and acted professionally.

Interesting

This is one of those movies that really make you think and evaluate your life. It's pretty slow throughout, though there are some scenes where you are on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed this movie because I liked the way it had several different stories in it that slowly collided into one. It was incredibly well done, though a little different than most movies I've seen, I would definitely recommend it.

Wow

At first the overall flow of the story seemed slow yet chaotic as you have multiple story lines, which the camera switches back and forth among sporadically, but they come together nicely in quite an ending. I am not saying the multiple story concept was a bad thing. It just left the viewer constantly trying to find the connection. Fear not! There is a connection, and you would be remiss not to see it as the cast performed spectacularly in this thought-provoking drama featuring a controversial subject..the afterlife. Furthermore, the imagery and cinematography involving such scenes were original and captivating with their haunting appeal.
