Alice, an unpretentious and individual 19-year-old, is betrothed to a dunce of an English nobleman. At her engagement party, she escapes the crowd to consider whether to go through with the marriage and falls down a hole in the garden after spotting an unusual rabbit. Arriving in a strange and surreal place called "Underland," she finds herself in a world that resembles the nightmares she had as a child, filled with talking animals, villainous queens and knights, and frumious bandersnatches. Alice realizes that she is there for a reason--to conquer the horrific Jabberwocky and restore the rightful queen to her throne.

Imagination Brought to Life
Visually appealing from start to finish, "Alice in Wonderland" is a roller coaster ride filled with whimsy and wit. Johnny Depp's portrayal of the Mad Hatter is insanely brilliant, (pun intended), while Helena Bonham Carter makes a deliciously evil Red Queen. It doesn't matter if you're nine or ninety-nine, this movie will have you glued to your seat for the entire ride! Bravo!
Strange and beautiful!
This is a far cry, visually, from the original Alice in Wonderland. Johnny Depp is awesome as the Mad Hatter! It was beautiful, but so strange to watch how the director portrayed some scenes. Still, very visually pleasing and kept my attention!
Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland...
Whenever I used to think of Tim Burton, I used to dream about an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland made by him. Then, when it was confirmed that Burton was working on the adaptation of the Lewis Carrol classic, my mind was blown and I started wondering "what will happen? Is this an adaptation, sequel, prequel? Is it completely original? How will it look? WHO will be in it?" and many other questions. Then pictures started circulating online, and it was like seeing magic come to life. As the time passed, my hype went up and when I saw it...i was kind of disappointed. The visuals where beautiful, what i expected from Burton, but the story was bland...like,"no matter how this looks, I can't stop concentrating on the bland plot". Most of the original characters of the book are there for a little moment. Now, the performances. First of All, Mia Wasikowska, really pretty young Australian girl, but...not quite made for the part. I really just felt "meh" about the Alice she portrayed. Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, now, that is an excellent casting choice. Her character made me feel attracted to the plot and it was just a very good performance by Ms. Carter. Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, very good contrast compared to Bonham Carter's Red Queen, and also a pretty good character on her own. And the big one, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, such a crazt character suited for such a crazy/versatile actor. I couldn't stop thinking about Depp's Raoul Duke in "Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas". Very entertaining character, but it also harmed the movie. How? People where just waiting for Depp to appear on screen to see what the Hatter would do, and that totally out starred Mia Wasikowska's Alice.
That, is a no-no. Bland story but beautiful cinematography and design, Alice in Wonderland will not be forgotten in a while and it might turn into a Cult movie in a couple of decades. Still, a very interesting/entertaining movie. My final verdict? a 5/10, just Average.
Another Tim Burton Masterpiece
I adored this movie, and so did my cousin's child when I showed it to her! What three year old doesn't like a funny talking rabbit? However, to be serious, Johnny Depp was just 'the man' as The Mad Hatter. He and Helena Bonham Carter made the movie right along with Tim Burton's incredible ability to hold audiences attention with these fascinating worlds he creates along with highly talented staff.
This movie holds a special place in my heart...
I will always remember this movie; not because it's truly excellent, but because it was the first movie I saw with my girlfriend (awww...)
Anyway, this Tim Burton movie...is a Tim Burton movie. You'll still get the twisted imagery, the wonky soundtrack, and a twisted tale that pushes the boundaries of children's entertainment. It's even harder to follow than usual due to it being based off of the second book in the series, but those looking to go "beyond the looking glass" need not look any farther than here.
