Star Wars Camera Breaks Records During Auction

If there's one thing that can be said about us Star Wars fans...we love spending our money on collectibles.  Well over the weekend one such item got the honor of becoming the most expensive piece of Star Wars memorabilia ever sold.

I'm not ashamed to admit the amount of money I've spent on my ridiculously sized Star Wars collection.  In fact, I'm quite proud of it.  Yet, one fan with an insane amount of money went all out at an auction this weekend by spending $625,000.  The prize?  A Panavision PSR 35mm camera.

This isn't just any Panavision camera though, it's one of the camera's that George Lucas used to shoot the original Star Wars movie back in the 70s.  The winning bid for this bad boy smashed the record for Star Wars collectibles along with the record for any other movie camera sold.  Which is amazing considering that the estimate for it was only $200,000.

The name of the buyer hasn't been released and more than likely he won't either.  However, if you see someone out in their backyard making fan films with this type of camera...you may have found him.  At least, I know that's what I'd be doing with the damn thing!
