Turns out it's Sean William Scott (American Pie, Bullet Proof Monk, Role Models). Here's the discussion:
"Smith revealed exclusively to NHL.com that Seann William Scott, who worked with Smith on "Cop Out," will play Buddy, the title character in "Hit Somebody." The script, based on a Warren Zevon song with lyrics by acclaimed writer Mitch Albom, is a story of a hockey enforcer who strives to score just one goal in a hockey game."
Smith is a huge hockey fan, which is pretty obvious in his movies, and has been planning this movie for some time. Though it isn't fully written yet Smith says he has it all ready to go and could probably bang it out in a month. As a big Kevin Smith fan, and a life long hockey lover I'm anticipating this project like an 8 year old anticipates Christmas Morning. Be sure to check back for any updates on this project as they develop. Those unfamiliar with the song the movie is based on check it out here.
Sean William Scott and Smith's newest film, Cop Out, hits theaters on February 26th.
