I'm sure I'll sit through a few duds but I'm equally certain I'll find a few gems I may have never seen otherwise and that makes it all worthwhile.

If you're an aspiring screenwriter you probably wonder about whether or not you should enter screenwriting contests. If you do decide to go that route it's easy to get overwhelmed with the number of contests that exist -- I know I do. Well, next year when you start sending your screenplay out into the world you may not want to forget to enter it into the Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition.

Filming for 'The Phantom of Hollywood' took place during the actual dismantling of the MGM backlot in the 70's which makes for an Easter-egg extravaganza for anyone with vast knowledge of classic film and television. For everyone else the film won't be nearly as easy to appreciate.

Earlier this summer I drove down to Austin for the 'Words That Go Bump In The Night: Writing Horror Films' event hosted by the Austin Film Festival. Tom Holland (Child's Play, Fright Night) and Alvaro Rodriguez (From Dusk Til Dawn 3, Machete) spent a few hours sharing stories about the successes and hardships of screenwriting. The conversation was great fun though I really wanted an opportunity to ask a few questions I could share with our audience of aspiring screenwriters here at TMP. Luckily, I was given the opportunity a few days later to pick Alvaro Rodriguez's brain for your benefit.
