The Wolverine Finally Gets a Release Date

Following a pretty bumpy road, filled with delays and even the need for a replacement director, it looks like things are back on track for the X-Men Origins: Wolverine follow-up. Fox has finally given the film a release date.

Let's face it, we haven't heard much about The Wolverine in a long time.  When Aronofsky was attached, the hype was pretty high and news was coming out somewhat regularly.  While James Mangold isn't a bad replacement for the director, he still isn't nearly as exciting either.  Couple that with shooting delays (Hugh Jackman even started shooting another film), and a lack of new information, and interest was starting to wane.

The Wolverine

Now it looks like things are back on track as Fox has set a release date for the sequel.  July 26, 2013 is when we'll see the clawed mutant back on the big screen.  All things considered, that's not too far away, so I would expect shooting to begin sometime in the near future.

In a year that already has Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Man of Steel, and now Wolverine, it looks like 2013 is going to be yet another year of the comic book movie.  While that's not a bad thing, let's just hope that Wolverine can stack up.  X-Men First Class proved that Fox can still make this franchise fun and entertaining, without dumbing it down.  Let's hope they transfer those lessons they learned over into this property...because Origins was just awful.
