Kevin Smith Making a Horror Movie

Writer/director Kevin Smith has announced that his next project will be a horror movie by the name of Red State.

The announcement came from his Twitter page and read as follows:

"I talk about lots of stuff I wanna do that either happens years later or never happens at all. Happy to report RED STATE is not the latter.
First draft was dated 9/5/07. Looks like we start shooting this July. Took nearly three years, but we're finally gonna roll on
RED."

Just last month it looked like his next project was going to be the hockey film, Hit Somebody.  He even discussed having Sean William Scott starring as the lead character but it seems that project has been pushed back in favor of Red State.

In a past interview with ShockTillYouDrop Smith said of the film:

"definitely a 180 from everything else we've done including Zack and Miri but at the same time, it's not like a splatter film, it's not like slasher balls-to-the-wall gore, it's more unsettling and disturbing type of horror."

Kevin Smith just came off the moderately successful buddy cop comedy Cop Out, which has made $43 million worldwide on a $30 million budget.  It was his highest grossing film to date.  Personally I didn't find it to be all that great, with only a few funny parts but then again he didn't write it so he isn't fully to blame.  I want him to get Red State done as quickly as possible so he can make Hit Somebody.  A Kevin Smith hockey movie is relevant to my interests.
