One of my protagonists in one of my several half-baked scripts is temporarily named Anna. Maybe that will be her name, maybe it won’t. Tonight as I read over the pages of the first two acts of Anna’s script, it became apparent to me that I didn’t know this girl at all.

Yeah, right…. You and everybody else, including me. If that’s your ambition, by now I am sure you’ve encountered the same thing I’ve run into when one mentions it to people — just about everyone has an idea for a movie that they’re sure is a winner. And many of them think they can write a script that will surely hit the silver screen, and then fortune and maybe even fame well follow.
The tagline is staple of the film industry. They are what drives the brand and power of a film. Studios spend millions just creating taglines to help ensure that the audience is caught, hooked, and will never forget the film they are about to see. Perhaps you know some of them by heart, some you might even remember where you heard them, but you know them sure enough.
What exactly is a logline? Through countless interviews and meetings with up and coming film producers, I have come to realize that many of them do not know what a logline is exactly. Seems sad, right? Who are these people, right? How could these guys make anything of themselves if the basic vocab of the industry escapes them, right?
Wrong, my friend. And I'll tell you why.
