NPH is the Leader of the Smurfs

Written by Nick Dow

According to DeadlineHollywood Neil Patrick Harris has accepted the lead in Sony's upcoming Smurfs movie, titled simply enough Smurfs: The Movie.  The movie is going to be a mix of animation and live action so we will actually be able to see NPH lead the Smurfs and not just hear his voice.  The movie will be directed by Raja Gosnell (Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Big Momma's House) and is set to start filming in April, with a July 29, 2011 release date.

Neil Patrick Harris can currently be found on the CBS show How I Met Your Mother which airs Monday nights.  He also gained cult notoriety from his appearances in the Harold and Kumar movies, where he plays a crazy, drugged out version of himself.  NPH is definatly my favorite openly gay actor and does a phenomenal job of playing a raging heterosexual despite not being one.

The Smurfs are the (somewhat) loveable little blue characters that only wear shirts and hats, live in mushrooms, and only have one woman in the whole community (she's probably kind of a whore).  They hit their peak during the run of their NBC Saturday morning cartoon, which ran from 1981-1990.  Like pretty much everything that was once sacred, the internet has now smutted up the once pristine image of the Smurfs.  You can't even search Smurfette on Google image search without finding Smurf porn on the first page.  This is the world we live in.  Sigh.
