Zoolander Sequel is Ramping Up

Written by Nick Dow

Long after it's initial release it looks like Zoolander is finally ready for a comeback.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that almost a decade after Zoolander was released the film will be getting a sequel.  Justin Theroux, who wrote Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2, is said to be writing and directing the picture which will of course star Ben Stiller as the titular character.  Stiller is also helping to write the script.  There is currently no information on whether Owen Wilson will be returning, but Jonah Hill is in negotiations to play the villain in the picture.  Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the film, wants to keep the budget under $50 million and according to Deadline some upfront reductions are being discussed in exchange for "bigger upsides", whatever that might mean.  Hopefully high quality comedy like the first film.

Zoolander was released in September of 2001 just 17 days after 9/11 so not very many people saw it in theater, it only made $45 million domestically and $16 million on the international market, but after it's dvd release it became something of a cult classic.  The highly quotable movie is easily my favorite movie with Ben Stiller, and in my top 10 of movies about male models.  If you've never seen it I recommend going out and getting it, just watch out for freak gasoline fight accidents.
