Batman, Avatar, & Captain America Movie News

Written by Jordan Maison

It just seems to be news galore over these past few days with many new tidbits popping up about some of the most anticipated films.  Not that we're complaining but nerds around the world might just very well explode if the news keeps coming out like this.

Let's start with something a little smaller, but pretty important bit of spoiler for you Ghostbuster fans.  That's right I did say spoiler, so if you're squeamish about knowing anything to do with the upcoming Ghostbusters 3 plot, you may want to scroll down.  Bill Murray has confirmed his role in the new film, while simultaneously confirming an earlier rumor started by Sigourney Weaver.  He'll be in the next film...as a ghost.  He told the studios the only way he would do this sequel would be if they killed him off in the first few scenes of the film and made him a ghost.

Captain America fans have some rejoicing to do, as two very juicy plot details have been released by none other than director Joe Johnston himself.  The villain for the new film is going to be Red Skull!  Secondly the film will prominently feature and integrate The Invaders.  For those not in the know, the Invaders were a superhero group (including Captain America) who fought during WWII.  Joe Johnston has confirmed their role in the film as being integral in the latter half of the film, which is still slated to release Summer 2011.

James Cameron has confirmed the Avatar sequel, which really isn't any surprise.  In a recent interview he has confirmed that he has the story arc already in mind for the second film and one even for a possible third film.  The only thing in doubt at this point is whether he'll follow up immediately with Avatar 2, or shoot something else in between.  He remains coy on the issue, only giving non-committal statements.

What many will consider the most exciting news, David Goyer has left the production of FlashForward (leaving it in anothers hands) in order to "focus on [his] feature career."  He says he has too much going on right now and wants to focus on films.  What films he was reluctant to say.  However, Deadline Hollywood revealed that one of those projects is The Dark Knight follow-up! Here's what they said:

Of course, Goyer's feature career is really heating up, since he co-wrote Batman Begins, and penned the story for The Dark Knight, and is now writing the third Batman installment with Chris Nolan's brother Jonah.

My excitement level has gone through the roof for all of these films, and we'll be sure to follow them in case any other good tidbits drops.
