I have to admit, making these lists is a lot harder than I thought. I just starting writing the titles of movies I've really enjoyed in the past 10 years and I had to stop myself when I got to about 30, which was very quick. So what I did was split my list since I've always considered myself to be of two distinct minds. Call it a copout or make your own lists, it's up to you. For me it's simple, some days I become immersed in the emotional experience, aesthetics, and cinematic qualities of films - and other days I just like to see shit blow up.
Good Days
City of God - The Pianist - No Country For Old Men - Requiem For A Dream - Remember Me, My Love - The 25th Hour - Road to Perdition - Pan's Labyrinth - Amores Perros - Cast Away
Bad Days
Gone Baby Gone - Gladiator - The Others - Sin City - The Dark Knight - Donnie Darko - Minority Report - Transformers (don't complain about storyline, they're talking alien robots from the 80's) - Iron Man - Almost Famous
If you want to know the difference between Good Days & Bad Days it's also very simple. On a good day I can sit and relax and enjoy a film for all it's beautiful cinematic qualities. On a Bad Day movies are like comfort food. I want to get into the zone, not think too much, and maybe even just crack a smile (Almost Famous).
