Try not to take the news too hard fans.  Believe me, ever since his announcement of a live-action show I've been eagerly awaiting any news of it.  Originally the predicted release date was supposed to be in 2010.

But as the years have gone on, the production of the show has been pushed off...and off.  We received some hope when the press release was made that they were hiring writers for the show, but then nothing really seemed to happen after that.  Soon all of the attention was put onto the cartoon show, and many fans gave up all hope soon after the announcement of a second cartoon show.

Continuing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ESB, George Lucas attended a recent screening.  After the movie he was quizzed by reporters on the status of the Star Wars and what was really going on with the live-action TV show.  Here's his answer:

"The live action TV show is kind of on hold because we have scripts, but we don't know how to do them...They literally are Star Wars, only we're going to have to try to do them at a tenth the cost. And it's a huge challenge, a lot bigger than what we thought it was gonna be."

I guess it's not all bad news, since this is the first indication to fans that there are scripts finished and merely awaiting production.  What does this ultimately mean?  We're going to have to wait until Lucas loosens up the wallet and makes them (other shows have treated the genre well without breaking the budget so it's possible).  The good news, though, is once they decide to go into production it should be fairly quick with scripts already done.
