You just cannot get good help these days. Deadline reports that The Sorcerer’s Apprentice star Nicolas Cage has pulled a Houdini act on his latest project. Sources say that it seemed like everything was all set until late last week when the Ghost Rider actor backed out of a $7 million dollar deal and the chance to play opposite Nicole Kidman in Trespass, a film that surely would have been golden if nothing else than for the fact that Kidman is going to be in the credits. The starlet will perform as a wife kidnapped for ransom by a gang of thieves looking for a good payday. Cage originally was intended for the part of the husband, but chose to turn that down in order to play the leader of the thieves.
What was his reason? He had a trip to the Bahamas that just could not wait until the film was wrapped. I’m paraphrasing, of course, but he did take off for a Bahama vacation right after leaving Joel Schumacher and Millenium films in the lurch. Some speculate that he may just be burned out due to the long Sorcerer’s campaign, but come on.. He picked this one to bail on, and decided to play in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans? The man can act, but perhaps what he needs to do is allow his personal assistant to assist in picking jobs.
Needless to say, Millenium is moving forward without Cage and searching for someone quick and decent to step in. The only other options are to either wait on Cage’s return, or to scrap the whole thing. However, that would just cause legal problems of epic proportions.
