'Fantastic 4' reboot gets a new name and a new Thing

A smattering of news about the reboot of Fantastic 4 has been released, including the official title and when work might get started on the project.

I'm not going to lie...I absolutely hated the Fantastic 4 films.  To be totally honest, I've really never much cared for the characters to begin with.  I'm not sure why, but I could never get into their stories, but I admit they had some interesting adventures.  It's too bad the films couldn't capture any of the good qualities of the comic.

So I feel torn about the upcoming reboot.  On one side I would love to see a Fantastic 4 project I could actually get excited about, but on the other side I don't I'm not sure I care enough about the property to bother getting my hopes up.  Who knows, and I'm sure it won't be until footage from the film starts coming out that I'll make my final decision on that.

However, don't expect to see anything on the project in the near future.  Fantastic 4: Reborn (the newly announced official title) isn't going to start production until after X-Men: First Class has wrapped.  Since they don't start filming until September 2010 we've still got a bit to go.

If they can get the Thing to look this good or better, we'll be in business.

I'm still not sold on the new title.  It feels way too gimmicky and I only hope they manage to tie that in with the story somehow.  On a lighter note, reports from 20th Century Fox are saying that the Thing (the big rock guy of the group) will be done completely in CGI.  Which means no ridiculous looking suit, that's oddly out of place with all of the other CGI elements.  Personally I think that's a great move, and with technology today fans will be able to view the Thing as he's represented in the comics; a very large rock creature that absolutely dwarfs anyone he is close to.

So plenty of news for you fans out there, but you still have plenty of sitting and waiting time so don't get too hyped just yet...you might explode.
