Being from Dallas it's a double whammy since the original movie was shot here - which apparently captured what they imagined as a run down, crime ridden Detroit of the future.
With all of the news of every comic known to man becoming a movie in the next three years it's easy to see why a studio would back off of a project like this, or at least have reservations. But if done correctly it still would have been a fun watch. Apparently the leap from 'The Fountain' to 'Robocop' was a bit much for Director Darren Aronofsky, which also makes sense. Although most of his movies have some element of fantasy it doesn't really seem like a cyborg cop would have been up his alley. And in case your wondering YES there was an element of fantasy in the Wrestler. Marisa Tomei doing a striptease - If that's not a great fantasy I don't know what is.
