'Saw' franchise sets a Guinness World Record

With it's seventh film on the way the Saw franchise now holds the world record for the most successful horror movie franchise.

But does making the most money mean it's any better?  So far we've been treated to six films that have come out every October without missing a beat.  It's definitely franchising and capitalizing on a property at it's most efficient.  But personally, I've never really cared for the films though.

I think the stories have been fairly decent so far (I'm not a blood and guts kind of guy though), but at this point it just feels tired.  Even fans need a break at some point.  Supposedly that's going to happen, as the forthcoming film is supposed to be the final one that will answer all lingering questions.

Regardless of my feelings, the six Saw films have raked in 733 million world wide, which makes it the most successful horror series around.  It's amazing to me that such staple films like Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street have been beat out by this.  Then again those series keep getting new remakes so they still might have a chance after all!

London-based Guinness Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday handed the Guinness World Record award over to the film's producers yesterday at Comic-Con.
