We've already talked about how Movie Gallery was shutting it's doors (following it's second bankruptcy in as many years) here in America. But hope could still be held out for the once large company in that they still were trying to keep all of their Canadian stores open.
Unfortunately the dream must die, as Movie Gallery has recently announced they'll be closing 131 of their stores in Canada. It's not all of them, but we're talking about a handful that will remain open and will more than likely be bought up and transformed into another company. As of this past Friday, all stores were notified and have started their close-out sales.
While it's sad to see such a large company fall so hard (especially one related to film) it's easy to see why. With Netfix and Redbox driving a huge wedge into the rental service pie, it was really only a matter of time before it happened. So far Blockbuster has been able to stay afloat, but many wonder how long before the rental giant is facing the same situation.
