It has today been revealed that Universal is in negotiations to pick up War Heroes, a comic book series written by Mark Millar (who you'll know best from such series' as Kick-Ass, Nemesis, Superior and his extensive work for Marvel) with art from Tony Harris. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, who have most recently been hired by Marvel Studios to pen Doctor Strange for Marvel, are said to be in negotiations to write the script with Michael De Luca, Chris Morgan and Trigger Street’s Dana Brunetti are attached to produce.
Jeff Kirschenbaum, who oversaw Wanted, another Universal adaptation of a Mark Millar comic reportedly heard that Columbia had relinquished the rights to the project and stepped in immediately to take over. Creative executive Jay Polidoro is set to oversee the adaptation, while Millar and Harris will serve as executive producers.
The story centers on a U.S. military experimental program developed in light of dwindling enlistments and the expanding war on terrorism that gives ordinary soldiers superpowers. When a rogue group of the super-soldiers breaks off to form a criminal enterprise, one hero rises from their ranks to prevent catastrophic results.
