Laurence Fishburne is Perry White in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel

One of the final puzzle pieces in the casting of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel has finally been revealed.  And its an...unexpected choice, that's for sure.  Read on after the jump.

The first person to break the news of Laurence Fishburne's casting was the LA Times' Superhero Complex, which also confirms that Fishburne will be the first African American to ever portray the character in any TV show or movie since the character's creation.  Fishburne joins a cast comprised of Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Kevin Costner as Pa Kent, Diane Lane as Ma Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, and Julia Ormond as Lara.  Harry Lennix, Christopher Meloni, and Antje Traue are also a part of the film.

On the whole, I have no problems with Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.  He's a great actor, and has the kind of leadership and gruffness perfect for the role of Perry White.  That said, the choice is pretty out of left field, especially considering the plethora of those rumored before him.  But like most casting decisions, sometimes its the most bizarre and strangest choices are the ones that deliver the best performances (i.e Heath Ledger as the Joker, Johnny Depp as a pirate, etc).  Guess we'll just have to wait to see if this one pans out.

Man of Steel opens June 13, 2013.

Just your standard everyday movie nut.  I talk about film so you don't have to! But please, go right ahead. I love a good debate.
